Celebrities Speak Out for DissectionChoice.org!

As national support for DissectionChoice.org continues to grow, we are happy to announce three of the most recent campaign participants: actor James Cromwell (Babe and Babe II: Pig in the City, Star Trek: First Contact, The General's Daughter, The Green Mile--visit a fan's site), actor Kevin Nealon (Saturday Night Live--visit his own site), and actress Linda Blair (The Exorcist, Scream--visit her own site).

James Cromwell

James Cromwell recorded two public service announcements for DissectionChoice.org that aired on Illinois radio stations during our campaign.

The first is on the Dissection Alternatives Act and students' rights (hear it!):

Hi, I'm James Cromwell from the movie Babe. In Illinois, the Dissection Alternatives Act guarantees students in grades k-12 the choice to use a computer alternative to dissection. But when students reach college, that protection ends. Often, students whose religions forbid dissection are forced to dissect; however, studies show computer alternatives are just as effective as the labs they replace. So help protect these students' rights. Visit www.DissectionChoice.org."

The second is on technology and dissection alternatives (hear it!):

Hi, I'm James Cromwell from the movie Babe. Every year in Illinois, students dissect thousands of pigs. But the same virtual reality technology behind today's advanced video games also powers educational software that can save these pigs' lives. Alternatives are often less expensive, more humane, and yet just as effective as traditional animal demonstrations. Learn more about dissection alternatives at www.DissectionChoice.org."

These recordings are available for broadcast. Please write info@dissectionchoice.org for more information.

Kevin Nealon

Kevin Nealon also supports student-choice for dissection.

"Studies show that alternatives to dissection teach the same objectives as using an animal," he says. "The University of Illinois should adopt a student-choice policy for undergraduates and give them the choice to use effective alternatives."

Linda Blair

Linda Blair agrees. "Dissection requirements force compassionate students out of the sciences. Let students use effective alternatives," she says. "I support giving the University of Illinois undergraduates the choice to use a computer- or video-based alternative to dissection."
